Having been a teacher for most of my career life, I began my teaching practice journey in the then Northern frontier district back in the 1960s. I taught at Marsabit County Primary School and got elevated to serve as a headmaster at Moyale County Primary School and at Wabera Township School in Isiolo County. All this time I spent in the so-called northern frontier district with the security issue adverse due to the then shifta war menace.
In Meru County Mr. Kibanga was head teacher at Gitijiwe Primary School for more than ten years. The passion and love to impact the society with good education, made me stay on, endure the afflictions and saw my students rise to serve in senior roles both in the government and private sector. Among other schools I served later in Meru county as a teacher were Baitigitu DEB, Kithirune Primary,Yururu and Kathera Primary Schools. All tenures crowned with exemplary performance awards and the product of multiple professionals like Doctors, Lawyers, Pharmacist, Engineers, Professors to mention but a few.
Later in my career, I was promoted to serve the education sector as a primary schools inspector where I served in Kiagu, Kanyakine and Mariara. In all these I am remembered for the remarkable advancements in boosting education level to perfection.
Towards my retirement I sought to consolidate my dream for a better educated society by starting a private school. From a humble beginning back in the year 2001, Uruku Academy has grown to a reputable school in Meru County and with a big positive impact to the society at large.
Boasting of a long list of former students who have excelled in many Professional fields. My career in education started over 30yrs ago. I vave served in Ukuu, Gitijiwe, Ntemwene, Kathera and Kigane Primary Schools. Of all these schools I leave my accomplishments in education for the credit I carried with me when we pioneered as teachers in the very first Methodist Church boarding primary school in the country, The Wesley Boarding Primary School .
From the scratch, a school was founded and became an instant hit. This way I toyed with the idea of a reality of founding a private school.
I always wish this idea was actualized earlier than 2001 when Uruku academy was founded. Today the school boasts of collage graduates settled in well paying careers and graduates an average of 25 students to high school every year. It is a mixed day and boarding school that is immensity growing by impacting positively on the emotional, spiritual, psychological and healthy physical development.
The school has also seen pupils from poor backgrounds be educated through well wishers. Girls rescued from early marriages from as far as Samburu have realized their education dream at Uruku thanks to well wishers and sponsors from around the globe. Kids from abused backgrounds having realized their dream here through assurance of their safety and those of their own mother’s that I counsel and elevate. Having acquired my education from miraculous circumstances of a society whose people never thought education was meant for girls, my passion for giving back only grew. I continue to give back in a special way to girls and boys from poor back grounds. Education is the best way of enabling a society to be self reliant and grow. Teaching a man to fish is overly better than giving the said man a fish. Thank you all for enabling us be where we are today and may Our Lords blessings be upon us all now and always.
